There
are so many ways to make spelling more fun! Divide your students
into 5 groups. Give each group a store-bought board game, such
as checkers or bingo. (Each group needs a different board game.)
Next, have the students design a new set of rules for that game,
where they incorporate their spelling words into it. For example,
a group may decide in the game of checkers that a player must
first spell the word given to him/her, and if it is spelled correctly,
they can then move their game piece. You'll be amazed at how creative
your students will be! After the new set of directions are written
for each game, groups can get up in front of the class to explain
the new rules. Groups can rotate the games so that each student
can play the new version, or games can be placed in a center to
be used during free time.
