After
a unit on letter writing, take a walking field trip (if possible)
down to your local post office. Beforehand, have each student
write a letter to someone they care about and seal each one in
an envelope with a stamp. Teach your students how to address the
envelopes, including how and where to put the return address.
While at the post office, go on a tour of the building. Your students
will be fascinated at how mail is dispersed and sorted. Before
leaving, be sure to drop those letters off in the outgoing mail!
Your students will hardly be able to wait for their friends and
family to receive their mail!
