Ask
a local carpet store to donate a supply of discontinued carpet
samples. You'll want the small ones where there are various colors
on one page of a carpet book. Invite your students to write about
their adventures of what it might be like to ride on a magic carpet.
What will they see? What will they do? How high will they go?
Then have your students staple or bind the small carpet samples
as to be the front cover of their books. They can even draw a
small picture of themselves, cut it out, and glue on top of the
cover to resemble themselves flying that magic carpet. These turn
out to be really fun stories!
Note:
For an added special touch, take larger carpet samples (approx.
15" x 20") and have each student sit on one while they
write. They'll begin to picture themselves actually riding on
a magic carpet!
