SPELLING/WRITING
Word of the Week

Submitted by: I Love That Teaching Idea! Staff
From: Nibley, Utah
Date Submitted: April 12, 2001

Choose a praise phrase for the week or a new, fun vocabulary word for your students to use during the week. Challenge your students to see how many times they can use that phrase or word throughout the week. Give them a "wink" when you hear that phrase or word so they know you realized the effort they made in order to say it aloud. Watch their smiles light up the room! Some ideas for praise phrases might include: "Wow! Nothing can stop you now!" or "Hurray for you!" or "You're so smart, you could be the principal of our school!"

Challenge students to also use that word somewhere in their writing this week. You'll be able to see if they understand the meaning when it's written in context.
