The Great Search -
Recycling Those Recyclables!

Have your students go on the "Great Search" for trash that is found on your playground. See how much trash can be picked up in 10-15 minutes. Then weigh the bags of garbage that you have collected. Graph your results.
Next, have the students make an awareness campaign in your school about the importance of recycling. Let the school know how much trash was found on the playground in a matter of minutes. Students can make these things known through daily announcements, posters, or even filming commercials about why we should recycle. Filmed commercials can be passed from class to class.
At the end of several weeks, send your students out again for the same amount of time (10-15 min.) and see how much garbage is collected. Weigh the amount. Graph the results and celebrate! The recycling campaign is sure to be a success!
