I
have my 2nd graders keep a running list of all the things they
have eaten that day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The next
day, we then separate the items into two different categories-
solid matter and liquid matter. For example, if they ate cereal
at breakfast, then the cereal would be a solid and the milk would
go in the liquid category. We then discuss some questions about
what we ate. "As a class, did we eat MORE liquid matter or
solid matter?" "Which was tastier- the liquid matter
or the solid matter?" A lot of interesting questions AND
answers are discovered through this activity.
