When
I want my students' attention, sometimes the only thing I have
to do is to start writing a message on the chalkboard very slowly.
All of a sudden, I have everyone's attention because they all
want to see what my final message will say! Some ideas may include,
"When you are quiet, I have something very important to tell
you," or " When I have 27 sets of eyes on me, we will
go out to recess," or "Are you being helpful or hurtful?"
or "If you would like me to tell you something that is on
my mind, please put your head down."
