As a classroom management strategy I count down when I have asked my students to do something. For example, I will say, "I'm going to start at 10 when I get to 1 you need a pencil and your Math book on your desk." I will then count down. Most of my students get finished by the time I get to 1. My kids enjoy the challenge and we save a lot of time.
